the state as manager of large enterprise

The process of privatising large-scale enterprise has been intensively and successively performed in numerous European companies, but the debate which has accompanied this phenomenon has not found unequivocal, clear and fully convincing results in terms of costs and benefits both to the companies and the activities concerned and for society as a whole.

Initially, the research deals with the subject of privatisation with an original comparative analysis of the experience in Italy and another four European countries, with the opportunity emerging for reflection which aims to define appropriate national and European policies on the role of the

State in managing large-scale enterprise.

The topic of sovereign funds is expanded in the second part, an area still little explored in the literature, both in reference to the investment logic followed by some of the main funds and the concerns generated by their goals.

Finally, a specific contribution was dedicated to studying the tools available to states in managing foreign investments in light of EU regulations concerning the free circulation of capital.
