Apulia General Electric Co.

35 envelopes and registers (1912-1964)

Founded in Naples in 1912 by Società Tirrena di Elettricità (Tyrrhenian Electricity Co.), Banca Commerciale Italiana (Italian Commerce Bank), Società per le Forze Idrauliche della Sila (Sila Hydraulics Co.) and Società Adriatica di Elettricità (Adriatic Electricity Co.), the company developed its activities in part through various purchases such as Società Ionica di Elettricità (Ionian Electricity Co.) in 1940.

Despite the damage sustained by the plants during the Second World War, the company returned to generating and distributing electricity, and in 1951 an industrial agreement was signed with S.M.E. which purchased a holding in the company.

In 1963 the company transferred its plants to Italian national electricity board E.N.E.L., and in 1964 it was taken over by Italsider Alti Forni e Acciaierie Riunite Ilva e Cornigliano.
