Founded on 10 November 1926 with its headquarters in Genoa, the company purpose was steelworking and sale of the corresponding products and by-products. The Chiasso steelworks were leased in order to begin operations.

In 1928 new land was purchased in the same area to increase production.

Still in 1928, the company merged with the following steelworks and metallurgy companies: Società Ferriera di Arquata, Società Ferriera della Spezia, and the Società Metallurgica Valdostana di Pont St. Martin. All the machinery and tools of the following steelworks and metallurgy companies was also purchased: Metallurgica di Busto Arstizio, Ferriera Torinese and Ferriera Airoldi di Sesto San Giovanni.

In 1929 the Società Metallurgica Laziale (Latium Metallurgy Company) was acquired.

In 1934 S.A.L.A. di Vicenza was taken over with a merger, a company with which a close relationship had already existed since 1928. The company was wound up in 1946, an operation which would conclude in 1954 with the remainder of the net assets being assigned to the shareholder Ilva.
