FINMARE ARCHIVE, 1955 - 1969

Finmare, which entered voluntary bankruptcy in 1999, was set up by I.R.I. in 1936 within a state reorganisation and streamlining project of its maritime services, which aimed to coordinate, address and guarantee the activities of the Italian, Lloyd Triestino, Adriatica and Tirrenia lines with adequate financial means; these had also been incorporated in 1936, and Finmare became the majority shareholder.

These lines were assigned the four sectors of maritime traffic which grouped together the passenger and freight lines and services of “primary national interest” with the Americas, Africa, Asia, the Adriatic and the eastern Mediterranean, the Tyrrhenian sea, Libya and the western Mediterranean.
The archive, acquired from Finmare in two different lots (1999 and 2001), is composed of 57 films which have all been processed and made available.
