The archive of the Luigi Pittaluga Vapori company of Genoa was acquired in November 2007 from the heirs of the Pittaluga family, located at the headquarters of the company itself. The technical, accounting and administrative documentation, which still requires reorganisation and inventory, is contained in 94 boxes and was produced between the 1910s and the 1970s.
Probably already active in the second half of the 19th century, in the first decade of the 20th century the Pittaluga company consolidated and developed its shipping activities, with interests in ship breaking as well, reaching its maximum size in the 1920s and 1930s. With the Second World War, the fleet suffered serious losses, and after the war, despite purchases of Liberty ships, the Pittaluga Vapori progressively reduce its activities until it closed in the second half of the 1970s.
