Declaration of significant historic interest of 13/03/2006

The Dufour SpA in liquidazione archive, preserved by the Bankruptcy section of the Court of Genoa, was acquired in 1998 and awaits inventory and cataloguing. This is the surviving documentation from the famous confectionery company owned by the Dufours up until 1989; this family of entrepreneurs had been active in western Genoa since the mid 19th century. The factory was created in 1926 as Caramelle San Giacomo, later Dufour SpA, which merged with the American company Elah in 1975 (extensive evidence of this operation is to be found in the archive). Elah-Dufour S.p.A. was placed in temporary receivership in 1981 with full bankruptcy procedures beginning in 1989, and was subsequently bought out by industrialist Flavio Repetto.

An initial count of the documents estimated a total of around 1,500 items (envelopes, folders, files, registers) ranging from the early 20th century to the end of the 1980s, and allowed a summary list of the size to be prepared. The preserved documentation includes the minute books for the board and shareholders' meetings, the charters and annual reports, files and documents relating to the personnel, designs for new plants, accounting data, correspondence and documents relating to the temporary receivership, the liquidation and final bankruptcy proceedings of the company.

The papers of "Economica", a co-operative created by Gustavo Dufour in 1903 for social housing, forms a separate core; this organisation was merged with the confectionery company in 1981. The documentation contains corporate and accounting data, transaction details, payrolls, correspondence and notarial deeds from 1944 to 1981.
